Spectrum Sharing and Coexistence
New cellular bands increasingly overlap with incumbents such as radio astronomy, Earth exploration satellites, weather sensing, and satellite communications. My work studies how 6G networks can share spectrum with these services, from interference modeling to programmable, real-time sharing mechanisms built on Open RAN. I am PI on an NSF Open Spectrum grant.
Topics
- Above 100 GHz: coexistence between active wireless links and passive sensing (e.g., radio astronomy and Earth exploration) in the sub-terahertz and terahertz bands.
- 7-24 GHz upper midband (FR3): sharing spectrum and services with incumbent terrestrial and non-terrestrial users.
- Programmable sharing with Open RAN: neutral-host architectures, and dApps that sense and react to incumbents in real time.
